Intended use
The VeloTM Multi-Drugs Rapid Test (Cup with Lock) is intended for the qualitative detection of multiple drugs of abuse and their metabolites in human urine. It is designed as a screening tool to aid in the initial assessment of drug use. This test is for professional in vitro diagnostic use only and is intended for use in forensic, occupational health, clinical, and point-of-care settings.
Principle
1.Drug Detection (Non-Alcohol) – Immunoassay Principle
- A urine specimen migrates upward via capillary action.
- If a drug is present below the cut-off concentration, it does not saturate antibody binding sites, allowing the colored test line (T) to appear → Negative result.
- If a drug is present above the cut-off, it binds the antibody, preventing the test line from forming → Positive result.
- A control line (C) always appears if the test functions properly, confirming adequate sample volume and proper flow.
2.Alcohol Detection Principle
- The alcohol pad changes color based on alcohol concentration, using a colorimetric enzymatic reaction involving alcohol oxidase, peroxidase, and TMB substrate.
- A distinct color change indicates alcohol presence ≥0.02%; no significant change = Negative.
3.Adulteration Test Principle
Adulteration strips evaluate chemical integrity of the urine:
- pH: Detects abnormal acidity/alkalinity (normal 4.0–9.0).
- Specific Gravity: Detects sample dilution (normal 1.003–1.030).
- Creatinine: Indicates sample concentration (normal >20 mg/dL).
- Nitrites: Detects oxidizing adulterants (not normally present).
- Oxidants/PCC: Detects strong oxidizers like bleach.
- Glutaraldehyde: Detects enzyme disruptors in urine adulterants.
- Bleach: Should not be present; confirms chemical tampering.
4.Internal Control
- Every strip includes a built-in procedural control line (C) to validate the test.
5.Interpretation
- Drug Test:
- Negative: Two lines (C and T).
- Positive: One line (C only).
- Invalid: No control line (C); retest required.
- Adulteration/Alcohol:
- Semi-quantitative based on color comparison to chart.
